Professional conference: Experts provide an insight into Muslim welfare

In the two-day public conference on January 13th and 14th 2015, opened jointly by Minister de Maizière and the Minister for Family Affairs, Manuela Schwesig, delegates from academia, politics and the field of welfare all contributed their knowledge and opinions. Issues regarding support for children and young people figured on the agenda, as did the situation with regard to older Muslims. The approximately 150 invited guests included socially engaged Muslims, representatives from local authority organisations such as youth welfare offices, representatives of welfare associations and representatives of Muslim organisations. Those present discussed the findings and suggestions of the working committee as presented by its chair Norbert Seitz, Head of Migration at the Federal Ministry of the Interior, and the President of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, Dr. Manfred Schmidt. The professional conference was thus intended to contribute to the transparency of the DIK while, at the same time, involving the expert public in the debate as a means of generating valuable momentum for the future.
